Measuring the Cost of Spam, Viruses, and Worms

By: Dennis Shewmaker

Idaclear online interviews ProMission Projects about defeating SPAM and other services we offer.

Here are some free tips to cut down on your unwanted emails.

Do not display your e-mail address in public.

If you do get an unwanted e-mail from a company that you know for sure you neither visited, nor have heard of, do not respond to any unsubscribe attempts. This is a trap and identifies you as a real person behind the e-mail.

Turn off autoresponses.

Submit an e-mail address that you have specifically for submitting information to companies.

Do not forward jokes. These also expose your e-mail address to spammers.

Be leary of electronic greetings cards. Some are being used to spam from your computer and contact list.

If you do get spam, report it to the FTC with this e-mail address: uce@ftc.gov
